International Women's Day

Our mission is to support the empowered female founders, female workers, and brands who are driving change in communities around the world.

We’re obsessed with businesses that champion sustainable and ethical practices not just concerning the products. By supporting women in business, families are supported, years of inequality can begin to be rectified, and better business outcomes result from diversity and inclusion.

The theme for this year’s international women's day is 'break the bias'. There’s no better way to emphasize the role female powered companies play than by bringing gender equality to the forefront.

We celebrate our awesome female founded companies as they have a forward looking, global, and inclusive outlook. A study by Kellie McElhaney at the Center for Gender Equity & Leadership determined companies with women on their boards make decisions more concentrated on social and environmental concerns compared to those without (Berkeley. 2012). By incorporating sustainable and inclusive values, female led companies are ensuring a fairer future for everyone.

Female led entrepreneurs may be small in number, but they make a huge impact. We’re proud to boast over 50% of our brands are female led/owned. Female led start-ups only represent a fraction of new start-ups. On top of this, women are paid 82 cents for every dollar a man is paid (AAUW. 2021).

Investment has been directed to male companies for many years, even though several studies have found female led start-ups outperform male, in revenue and performance (Forbes. 2019).

Companies that are inclusive and diverse from top to bottom clearly make better decisions, are more productive, and basically better in every way!

Especially in the fashion industry, in many factories around the world, female workers are given lower wages and poor working conditions. Brands with female leaders understand this plight and prioritize the fair and equal working conditions. It can often be easy to not question the accepted practices. Companies such as ASK Scandinavia ensure fair and equal working conditions for all their workers around the world.

Female powered brands demonstrate their willingness to give back to communities in many ways; for example, by supporting mothers globally, brands such as Dauntless, 10 Grove, and Raven + Lily, are empowering a new generation of individuals to be afforded education and opportunities. It might not seem like much, but women and mothers are often not given equal opportunities in the workplace. These brands allow mothers the flexibility to work, and simultaneously support a family. These businesses are driven by a passion we share; to instigate positive change in a changing world.

This highlights just some of the awesome work our female-powered brands are doing to break boundaries, precedents, and bias!
